The Family Coaches Program is a mentoring program designed to assist families in achieving economic self-reliance. The program was created in response to Welfare Reform, which became effective in December 1996. Recognizing the changes that take place and the potential obstacles for families moving from welfare to work, the Family Coaches Program offers assistance through volunteer mentors, known as Family Coaches. Churches, civic groups, and individuals serve as Family Coaches to families who are in need of guidance and encouragement. Family Coaches share time, talents, and community spirit with families. They assist families with goal setting and goal attainment while providing guidance, support and motivation. With the support of Family Coaches, families have become stronger, more self-reliant, and achieved a better quality of life.
